One Hour Cinnamon Bun Recipe
Recipe from Ali at: https://www.gimmesomeoven.com
One Hour and 55 minutes of Prep and Rising Time
Ingredients
Dough:
1 cup milk
1/4 cup butter (1/2 of one stick), softened
1 envelope (2 1/4 teaspoons) of active/fresh yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
Filling:
1/4 cup of cane sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons of butter
Icing: 1/4 cup of butter
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of milk
Steps:
Heat 1/4 cup of butter (4 tablespoons) in the microwave till almost melted, then add the 1 cup of milk and continue to microwave. Using a thermometer (if on hand, if not don't worry) get liquid to 110° or till the outside of bowl/measuring cup feels very warm BUT not hot
Pour butter and milk mixture into mixer (I used a bread hook as my attachment but can use a normal mix attachment) and add the envelope of active yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoon of fresh yeast. Stir this mixture and let sit as you prepare the dry ingredients
Combine in a small bowl 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add this dry combination to the yeast and liquid mixture and put on a low speed. After adding all of the dry ingredients, crack one egg into the mixer
Continue mixing on low to medium speed until the dough starts pulling away from the edges and coming together, about 5 minutes. If the dough is looking too liquid or not coming off the sides of the mixer, add up to and no more than an additional 1/2 cup of flour
Once the dough is coming together (around 5 minutes) place the dough into a greased bowl, I just used the same mixing bowl. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let it sit in a warm place for one hour to rise
While the dough is rising, combine in a small bowl, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons cinnamon and 1/4 cup of cane sugar. This will be the filling so make sure you get rid of any large clumps of brown sugar
After the dough has risen (or not risen) for an hour, flour a counter or rolling space to put the dough on. Take the dough from the bowl and roll it out on this floured surface till you create an 18" by 10" rectangle. Your dough can make a smaller or bigger rectangle, as long as your dough is evenly rolled and not so thin you can see through it
Once the dough is rolled out in a large rectangle (any appropriate size that works for you and your dough) just melt 2 tablespoons of butter so that there is a soft lump left. Brush the melted butter evenly onto the rolled dough, this is what will make your filling stick
Next, sprinkle generously the brown and cane sugar mixture onto the dough. Use all of the mixture and make sure every part of the dough is evenly covered. Press gently onto the filling so that it sticks to the dough and will not move as much
Starting on the widest side of the rectangle, start rolling the dough to the other wide side of the dough. Make each roll of the dough as tight as possible and push down on the filling to ensure it does not just come off

Once you have rolled your dough into a cylinder shape, pinch along the seam to make sure that the dough will not come apart. Now get a piece of dental floss (with no flavor) or wash a piece that does have a flavor. You want a piece that is long enough that you can wrap your fingers around and have a hands distance between
With your dental floss, place it under the cylinder, about one inch from the end and cross the strands over top of it to cut the cinnamon roll. Continue flossing (cutting) your cinnamon rolls until you have used up all of the dough

Place the rolls during or after cutting them all up into a greased cylinder 9" pan or a rectangle pan if you need more room. Place the rolls right next to each other and squish them in so they are all touching
Cover the pan with a damp towel and let it rise for 25 minutes and preheat the oven to 350°. After rising, place the pan into the oven for 18 minutes (in between 15-20) or until the tops are golden brown
While the pan is cooling, start melting 2 tablespoons of butter for the icing. While the butter is melting, combine 2 teaspoons of vanilla, 1 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, and 2 tablespoons of milk
Once the icing is complete, drizzle it over the pan of cinnamon buns until each is covered with icing. I did not use all of the icing, so use as much or as little as you want

After being iced, either cut right into this mouth watering treat, or cover with foil and keep for the morning!
